The engagement
How a fixed-price build and care plan works
Three steps. A conversation and a written scope, a build at a fixed price, then a monthly care plan once the app is in use. We're a small studio in Hamilton, building for small businesses across New Zealand.
Step 1
Discovery
We talk through the work. Who uses the system, what they do today, and where the spreadsheet or the paper breaks down. You get a written scope: what the first version will do, and what it will leave for later.
Discovery is a conversation, not a long consultancy. If a spreadsheet is still the right tool, we will say so.
Step 2
A fixed-price build
We price the agreed scope before we start. You know the cost, then we build that. The scope is what you need, and nothing more: you pay for that, not for a pile of features sitting unused. If something new comes up, we decide whether it belongs in this build or in a later one.
Step 3
A monthly care plan
After launch we host the app, keep it maintained, and make small changes. Small means adjustments that leave the shape of the system alone: a field, a wording change, a report tweak, and keeping the software updated.
Larger new features are scoped and priced on their own, so the monthly plan stays predictable. Hosting can sit in an account in your name, or we can run managed hosting for you. Either way, you can export the data. See Your data.
What we need from you
Someone who knows the work, and who can look at the app while it is being built. Questions need a person to land with.
We agree the scope, then the build follows it. A duration goes on a proposal once there is a real scope, rather than a stock number of weeks on this page.
Tell us about the work
The first conversation is discovery. Bring the spreadsheet, the paper, or the tool you have been working around.
